The latest Ponderings from Paducah, written by Communications Manager Pam Spencer, invites the community to celebrate local investment in our parks and downtown with four ribbon-cutting celebrations taking place throughout September.
September is shaping up to be a month of ribbon-cutting celebrations in Paducah, with four exciting community events showcasing new investments in our parks, sports facilities, and riverfront. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate these projects and the people and partnerships that helped bring them to life.
September 4 | New Playground at Kolb Park
Families are invited to celebrate the new playground at Kolb Park with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 4. Located at 1650 South 6th Street, the playground replaces equipment installed in 2005 and offers a fresh, vibrant space designed for children ages 2 to 12.
The new play area features two large play structures, a spinner for up to 10 children, a climbing arch, slides, and swings, including toddler and inclusive seats. Funded through the Community Development Block Grant program, the improvements will provide a safe, welcoming space for families to play and enjoy the park.
September 10 | Paducah Sports Park by CFSB Grand Opening
The celebration continues on Thursday, September 10, beginning at 6 p.m., at Paducah Sports Park by CFSB. Bring the whole family for games, inflatables, food, music, and plenty of fun.
The official ribbon cutting and remarks begin at 7:10 p.m., followed by a spectacular drone light show at 8 p.m. Join the McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission, City of Paducah and McCracken County elected officials, and project partners as we celebrate this exciting new destination for sports, recreation, and community gatherings.
September 18 | Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project
On Friday, September 18, from 4 to 9 p.m., we’ll celebrate the completion of Paducah’s Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project, also known as the BUILD Grant project.
Remarks and the ribbon cutting begin at 4 p.m., followed by live music, games, and food trucks from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Then, settle in for a family-friendly showing of Finding Dory on an inflatable screen at 7:15 p.m.
With a new riverboat excursion pier, transportation improvements, a commons area, landscaping, terraced seating, and other enhancements, this project is transforming our riverfront and strengthening connections to downtown.
September 29 | Albert Jones Park Walking Path and Shelter
To celebrate the enhanced walking path and new shelter at Albert Jones Park, join us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 29 at 1 p.m.
This summer, the existing walking path was removed and replaced with a new, wider six-foot path. The path also was extended to create a full quarter-mile loop for the community to enjoy. Crews added a picnic shelter, providing a shaded gathering space for families.
Albert Jones Park, located at 855 Joe Bryan Drive northeast of Brooks Stadium, is a neighborhood park on the former Henry Clay Elementary School site.
